Individual Therapy

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself  just as I am, then I can change.”

   -Carl Rogers

Therapy is an empowering and transformative process that can help you learn to respond to your life and your relationships in calm, creative, and intentional ways. Therapy can help you to gain feelings of inner safety, self trust, love, and acceptance. Even after a lifetime of pain or feeling stuck, therapy can help you heal, grow, change, and become more vibrantly alive and connected to the beauty of who you already are.

How does therapy work? The answer is good news: you are hard-wired to heal. Current neuroscience research reveals that the brain constantly changes it’s structure through a process known as neuroplasticity.

When you work through your difficult feelings, challenges, and worries in the presence of a caring therapist where you are seen, appreciated, and understood, your brain functioning goes into what is known as the responsive mode. Together, we access a place of mindfulness where you can process your feelings in new ways, understand incoming information differently, and literally change the neural pathways in your brain. In this mindful and responsive mode, neurons fire together and wire together differently, changing the way in which you see, accept, and understand your inner and outer experiences.

Conversely, when you feel threatened or harmed, when you can’t reach important goals, or when you feel isolated, disconnected, unseen, or unloved, your brain functioning goes into a reactive mode, leading to states of fear, anger, anxiety, depression, isolation, mistrust, and even violence towards yourself or others.

Therapy helps you leave this painful state of reactivity and gain deeper access to your responsive mode where healing, peace and contentment are possible. Click here to read more about my therapeutic orientation and approach or contact me for more information.

“The possibilities are numerous once we learn to act and not react.”
